Frequently asked questions

What movement does the Pilgrim use and why?

Every Pilgrim watch is powered by the Seiko NH38 automatic movement. We chose it for its proven reliability, long service life, and excellent repairability — a watchmaker anywhere in the world can service it. It is a movement built to last, which suits everything we believe a watch should be.

What does automatic mean?

An automatic watch is powered entirely by the natural motion of your wrist as you move through the day. There is no battery. When worn regularly it winds itself continuously. If left unworn for a day or two, a few turns of the crown will set it in motion again.

Are the dials really made by hand?

Yes. Every dial begins as a blank brass disc. Each index, numeral, and the Cross of Santiago is engraved using our own laser engraver in our UK workshop. The sunburst dials use a pre-finished brass base with the detail laser etched by hand. No two dials are identical.

What is the water resistance?

The Pilgrim is rated to 5ATM — suitable for everyday exposure including rain and handwashing. It is not designed for swimming or immersion. We recommend removing your watch before bathing or swimming.

Why does delivery take 30-45 days?

Every Ascensión watch is made to order by hand. When you place your order we begin the assembly process — regulating the movement, fitting the dial and hands, casing the watch, and finishing it with your chosen strap. We do not hold pre-assembled stock. The wait is part of what makes it yours.

Can I order a specific dial and case combination not shown on the site?

We offer a curated range of variants to maintain the quality of each combination. If you have a specific request please contact us at help@ascensiontimepieces.com and we will do our best to help.

Do you ship internationally?

At the moment, we only offer U.K shipping. However, if you are overseas and would like to purchase one of our watches, please send an email to help@ascensiontimepieces.com and we will try to help you.

How will my watch be packaged?

Every Ascensión watch is presented in our branded packaging, accompanied by a pilgrim-style credential insert — our own take on the passport carried by every pilgrim on the Camino. It includes the story of your watch, care instructions, and a quality control card noting the regulated accuracy of your specific movement.

Can I track my order?

Yes. Once your watch is complete and dispatched you will receive a tracking number by email.

What strap does the watch come with?

Every Pilgrim is finished with a hand-crafted leather strap made in Spain. The strap is 20mm at the lug and tapers to 18mm at the buckle.

How do I care for my watch?

Wear it. An automatic watch is designed to be worn daily — the motion of your wrist keeps it wound and running. Avoid exposing it to strong magnetic fields, extreme temperatures, or immersion beyond its water resistance rating.

How often does it need servicing?

We recommend servicing every 5-7 years under normal daily wear. The NH38 movement is widely supported by independent watchmakers worldwide — servicing is straightforward and cost effective.

Where are Ascensión watches made?

Every watch is hand assembled in the United Kingdom. Our dials are hand engraved in our own workshop. Our leather straps are hand crafted in Spain. It is our intention over time to move case production to the UK or Spain.

Why the Camino de Santiago?

Because that is where the idea was born. Our founder walked the Camino Frances from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port to Muxía in 2022. The brand is named after his Galician mother. The Camino is not a marketing angle — it is the reason Ascensión exists.
